Creating the Clever You album was a blast! What can I say, Charlie Calello and I don’t belong in the same room, but for some crazy reason, The Lord said ‘yes’ to recording a new project with this legendary Producer/Arranger. If you’ve never had the pleasure, please peruse Charlie’s vast fifty year career span to fully get the picture. All that to say, it was an extreme honor to collaborate once again after many years of really not singing at all.

Our history goes back some twenty years ago when I was asked to sing on a Christmas project that Charlie was producing, and then again a few years later I sang tracks #1 (Don’t Worry About me) and #8 (Someone to Watch Over Me) on his ‘Cocktail Classics 2’ album, a tribute to George Gershwin, currently available on Spotify.

The ‘Clever You’ project that we just finished has been a dream of mine for at least 15 years, and to watch it come to life in the studio was heavenly. We recorded at the infamous Power Station Recording Studios, with AMAZING chief engineer, Paul Kronk, and some of the finest musicians in South Florida. To witness Charlie conducting was an immense thrill, in and of itself,  and then to get behind the mic again and have the privilege of singing to these lush, and I mean lush tracks, was unspeakable.

For this project, I wanted to record two of my own compositions (Clever You, and Don’t Tell Me You Love Me), and two more covers that are very dear to my heart (Dindi by Antonio Carlos Jobim, and Waltz for Debby, by Bill Evans). Thanks to Charlie, the arrangements and musicianship on these compositions are stunning to the point of transporting the listener to unimagined places. When music has that kind of power, you know you’ve got something special…I hope as you listen, you feel the same!

Working with Charlie is one of the greatest achievements of my musical career, and on top of that, he is by far one of the kindest souls I have ever encountered and that is the true gift!
